Coffee, creativity and community at YMCA Yorkshire Coast
There’s a real sense of new energy at YMCA Yorkshire Coast this autumn, with exciting projects taking shape across the building, from the launch of our new café Stage and Sip to an inspiring partnership supporting young people in Scarborough.
Stage and Sip is our freshly designed café space, created for people who need something quick, healthy and affordable while on the go. It’s already becoming a favourite stop for dancers grabbing a bite before rehearsals and visitors looking for a light meal before a show. During the day, it’s also a calm spot to work, chat or simply relax with a good coffee and the friendly buzz of the building around you.
Alongside the café’s opening, YMCA Yorkshire Coast has teamed up with SeeChange on a new Building Inclusive Communities project. The 11 week programme takes place in the YMCA Theatre, offering a creative and welcoming space for 16 to 25 year olds who are currently not in education, employment or training (NEET).
Each week, young people come together for two hours to explore expressive arts, guided by YMCA youth workers and industry professionals. They’re working toward an ASDAN short course, gaining hands on experience in areas like lighting, sound design and digital music creation. For many, English isn’t their first language, and this project offers a place to learn, collaborate and build confidence through creativity rather than classrooms.
This work also links with other community hubs, including the Rainbow Centre and a partner venue supporting refugees and asylum seekers. Together these spaces are helping to build trust, connection and inclusion across our town.
It’s all part of YMCA Yorkshire Coast’s wider commitment to helping people discover who they are and who they can become.
And while we’re talking about excitement in the building, don’t forget there are only a few days left to grab early bird tickets for our Christmas events. They’re already selling fast, so make sure to book soon and join us for some festive fun at the YMCA Theatre.
